Features of Allevyn Life Foam Dressing

Multi-Layer Design

  • Allevyn Dressings have many layers that work together to help with wounds. They have silicone adhesive, foam, an absorbent core, a protective layer, and a breathable cover.
  • These dressings are good for reducing pressure and are not too expensive. They can be used to help prevent pressure ulcers.
  • The silicone layer is gentle on the wound and doesn't hurt when changing the dressing. It can also be moved around if needed.

Multi-Layer Design Wound Dressing

Pressure Redistribution

  • Allevyn Dressings have a special design with multiple layers that help to spread pressure more evenly than regular foam dressings. They also have a four-leaf clover shape with a wide border to make sure the dressing doesn't move around.
  • To check how well it works, they did a study where they put a lot of pressure (1000mmHg) on both the Allevyn Dressings and regular ones. The results showed that Allevyn Dressings were better at spreading out the pressure.

Benefits of Allevyn Life Wound Dressing

  • Discretion Layer: This layer helps hide any wetness, so patients don't need to worry about others noticing. It also tells when it's time to change the dressing, reducing waste.
  • Lock-away Layer: Allevyn Life has a special center that can hold a lot of fluid and prevent leaks. It also takes care of any bad smells from wounds, giving patients peace of mind.
  • Cushioning Layer: The dressing has multiple layers that act like a cushion, protecting patients from everyday bumps and redistributing pressure. This makes patients feel more comfortable.

What is Allevyn?

Taking care of a wound is not just about making it heal physically. For people who have wounds all the time, like 24/7, Allevyn is the dressing that has been designed with the human body in mind. It lets out just the right amount of moisture to keep the wound in the best condition. 96% of patients found Allevyn Life to be a comfortable dressing to wear.

What led to the innovation of Allevyn Life Dressing?

  • Leakage seeing the dressing get wet, and bad smells can be embarrassing.
  • Wounds not being protected from bumps and hits can be scary and painful.
  • Dressings that don't stay in place and fall off can be really frustrating.
  • Having to change dressings a lot and slow healing can make people anxious.

Allevyn Foam Dressing Technology

So, they made Allevyn Life, which is a special dressing with layers to absorb well, protect from hits, and stay in place, designed for people's everyday lives.

How long can Allevyn Foam Dressing stay on?

In-vitro studies and clinical experience demonstrate that Allevyn Life dressings can stay in place for up to seven days. This capacity results from a combination of properties. The perforated wound contact layer allows even viscous exudate to pass into the dressing.

How to Apply Allevyn Life Silicone Gel Dressing?

  • Clean the wound following local guidelines.
  • Choose the right size of the dressing.
  • Prepare the skin around the wound by getting rid of extra moisture and trimming any excess hair for a snug fit.
  • Take off one of the protective covers from the Allevyn Life dressing and stick it to the skin with the sticky side down. Smooth it over the wound, making sure there are no wrinkles.
  • If you're using Allevyn Life on the sacrum (lower back), place the narrow end of the dressing about 2 cm above the anal sphincter, then smooth it over the sacrum. Remove the other protective cover.
  • Smooth the rest of the dressing over the wound without stretching it. The padded part of the dressing should cover the entire wound surface.
  • Allevyn Life can also be used on tricky areas like heels and elbows. You can overlap the corner lobes of the dressing to make sure it fits well without wrinkles or stretching.

When to Change Allevyn Foam Dressing?

  • For most wounds, you can leave the dressing on for up to 7 days.
  • But if it's on the lower back (sacral area), you should change it within 5 days. However, you can keep it on longer if the wound and the skin around it are okay or until more than half of the pad outside the middle part gets wet.
  • These are just suggestions. You should follow the rules your local healthcare team gives you.
  • Because the lower back can get dirtier and more prone to infection, you might need to check it more often, as your healthcare team recommends.

Allevyn Life Foam Dressing Removal

  • To remove the dressing, lift the edge of the dressing and slowly peel back until completely removed from the wound.
  • Sacrum Dressings should be removed from the top edge down towards the anus to minimize the potential for fecal contamination.
