When to use IV Securement Dressings?

IV catheter dressings are used for the following purposes:

  • Securing IV catheters
  • Securing surgical incisions
  • Superficial wounds like abrasions and skin ulcers
  • Stage I and II pressure ulcers
  • Skin grafts and donor sites
  • After tattoo application and removal
  • Minor burns

Tips for using IV Catheter Dressings

You can follow the below-given tips while using an IV catheter dressing for the best experience:

  1. Clip the visible hair before using an IV securement dressing. Do not shave the area. 
  2. Make sure that the skin is clean and free from any sort of contamination.
  3. Use an antiseptic and let it air dry before applying the dressing.
  4. Do not stretch the IV catheter dressing while applying it.
  5. Use an extra securement, if required.
  6. If there is a requirement of re-adjusting or replacing the dressing, do it.
  7. Remove the dressing with great care so that you do not damage the skin.
  8. Inspect the catheter/IV dressing occasionally.
