- Carefully lift the edges of the dressing from the skin. If it's tricky, use tape on the edge and lift with the tape.
- Keep lifting until all edges are free from the skin.
- Remove the dressing slowly, folding it over itself, and pull in the direction of hair growth.
Note: Sometimes wounds might have a smell, especially when you take off the dressing or if there's leakage. The smell should go away after cleaning the wound.
Precautions
- Treat any skin ulcer as part of a plan guided by a healthcare professional.
- Tegaderm Hydrocolloid Dressings may make the wound seem larger at first as unnecessary tissue is cleaned. This is normal and should be followed by a better-looking wound.
- If the wound gets bigger after the first few dressing changes, consult a healthcare professional.
- Keep an eye on the wound for signs of infection like fever, increased pain, redness, bleeding, swelling, or unusual odor/discharge. If any of these happen, see a healthcare professional.
- Rarely, problems like irritation, whitening of the skin, or excessive tissue formation may occur under the dressing. If these happen, talk to a healthcare professional.
- If the wound doesn't start to heal or if there are unexpected symptoms, consult with a healthcare professional.
