Xeroform dressings are a type of medical wound dressings that are infused with 3% Bismuth Tribromophenate in petrolatum or oil emulsion base. Their antiseptic and antibacterial properties help protect the wound from infections. They can be used over a wide range of wound types, including open wounds, lacerations, burns, surgical incisions, skin grafts, etc.
The Non-Stick Xeroform gauze is designed for open wounds. Xeroform gauzes are particularly useful as non-adherent dressings that do not stick to the wound and allow for trauma-free dressing removal. This non-stick gauze uses highly absorbent material to stay dry and clean. Non-stick dressings conform well to contours and help keep the wound moist without sticking to them. It is always preferable to saturate the gauze with some substance that makes it non-adherent. One such substance is petrolatum. It can also be used as an initial layer in dressing surgical wounds with light exudate which require mild medication and deodorization.

It allows the wound to breathe and transfer exudate away from the wound site into a secondary dressing. Non-occlusive Xeroform dressing contains 3% Bismuth Tribromophenate, a bacteriostatic and deodorizing agent. It is ideal for use on chronic wounds, first and second-degree burns, donor and recipient sites, abrasions to tunneling wounds, and low to high exuding wounds.
Xeroform petrolatum dressing is a gauze dressing impregnated with 3% Bismuth Tribromophenate and petrolatum. Petrolatum creates a waxy coating that makes the dressing occlusive and non-adherent to provide a moist wound environment. Xeroform petrolatum gauze can be used for minimally draining wounds, post-operative wounds, surgical incisions, first and second-degree burns, lacerations, donor sites, and skin grafts. It also provides a deodorizing action which reduces the wound odor.
Xeroform oil emulsion dressing contains 3% Bismuth Tribromophenate in a water-in-oil emulsion impregnated on a fine mesh gauze. It helps in providing bacteriostatic action in light to heavily exuding wounds. This low profile dressing easily clings and conforms to the wound bed. It also helps in providing compression therapy and can even be used in deep and shallow wounds.

Collect all the supplies like antibiotic ointment, Xeroform gauze, tape, etc., which will be required to dress your wound.
Make sure that you wash your hands before and after dressing the wound.
If required, apply an antibiotic ointment to your wound.
Then cut appropriate length strips of Xeroform dressing and gently place them over the targeted area.
While applying the dressing, try to limit its application on healthy skin. An overlap of about one inch on to healthy skin is good enough in case your dressing shifts as you move about.
To protect the Xeroform gauze dressing, wrap it with a roll of dry gauze.
While wrapping arms or legs, start from the outermost end and wrap upward towards the body. For example, start at the fingers and work towards the shoulder or start at the toes and wrap upward towards the knee.
Secure it with tape if required.
You can further secure your wound dressing with the help of snug-fitting clothing.
If your dressing shifts and wound areas become exposed, reinforce the dressing and reapply to augment if needed.
Patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to the product itself or its components.
Change wound dressing as directed by your medical professional.
Cover the xeroform gauze with an appropriate secondary dressing according to the amount of exudate and frequency of dressing change.
Call your doctor immediately if you see any of the following symptoms:
Increased swelling, redness, or warmth in the skin around the wound
Bad smell coming from the wound
Fluid accumulating under Xeroform dressing
Fever above 100.5 degrees F
Increased pain
Bleeding
