Why Double Gloving is Important?

  • The risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens is a major concern for surgeons and their staff.
  • A recent study reported that over 80% of all surgical glove perforations go unnoticed.
  • Another study reported that the incidence of glove micro perforations increased with duration of wear.
  • Although often undetectable to the human eye, even micro perforations are large enough to allow pathogens to pass between glove wearer and the patient and cause infection.
  • A proven method to reduce these risks is to double glove with a dark colored under glove.


How Double Gloving System Work?


  • The wearer dons the specially designed darker colored under glove as the first layer of protection followed by a light-colored or translucent over glove.
  • In the event that the outer glove is breached during surgery, blood and other fluids seep between the two glove layers, and the contrasting color of the dark green under glove alerts the wearer to change gloves.
  • Changing gloves immediately following the breach minimizes the risk of transmission of pathogens between the wearer and the patient.
