How Medihoney Wound Gel helps promote healing?
Wounds can be challenging to manage due to a multitude of co-morbid and cascading factors. These factors include necrotic tissue, elevated levels of pH which can alter the composition of wound exudates, and recurring physical trauma.
High Osmolarity:
- Promotes a moisture-balanced environment conducive to optimal wound healing in multiple etiologies
- The high osmotic potential of Medihoney promotes an outflow of wound fluid that helps to soften and liquefy necrotic tissue
- Medihoney aids in autolytic debridement and the removal of necrotic tissue containing factors that can delay wound healing
Low pH:
- Medihoney has a low pH of 3.5-4.5
- It is associated with lower pH levels within the wound.
When to change Derma Sciences Burn and Wound Dressing?
Change dressing as directed by a healthcare professional.
Recommended Secondary Dressings:
Cover with an appropriate secondary dressing depending on the amount of exudate and frequency of dressing change required.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you use MediHoney on open wounds?
Yes, you can use it on wounds that are somewhat dry to moderately wet.
Does MediHoney kill germs?
It's not a disinfectant, but it can reduce germs by taking moisture out of the wound and changing the pH level, which helps healing.
Can you use MediHoney on infected wounds?
Yes, it works on infected wounds too.
What's the difference between the paste and gel?
The paste is pure honey, while the gel is honey mixed with thickening stuff. The gel sticks better and is better for not-so-deep wounds.
How long does it last?
Check the date on the tube, it usually lasts about a year from when you buy it.
Why not regular honey for wounds?
MediHoney is made safe for wounds by removing bacteria. Regular honey might have stuff in it that's not good for wounds and could cause infection.
