Bard StatLock Foley Stabilization Device features a patented swivel retainer that maximizes comfort while providing an enhanced sense of security. It stabilizes the catheter to prevent pistoning and accidental dislodgement, while the swivel design allows catheter movement with the patient without exerting a pull force on the catheter.  StatLock is available in both adult and pediatric sizes and works well with most latex and silicone catheters. It provides lock tight securement, releasable whenever required.

How To Apply StatLock Stabilization Device?

1. Place the Foley catheter into the retainer. The directional arrow should point toward the catheter tip, and the balloon inflation arm should be next to the clamp hinge.

2. Close the lid by placing fingers under the pad and pressing the grip markers at the end of the clamp with your thumb, being careful to avoid pinching the catheter.

3. Identify the proper securement site by gently laying the StatLock Stabilization Device straight on the front of the thigh, then back up one inch towards the insertion site.* Make sure leg is fully extended. – Gently place the StatLock Stabilization Device off to the side, away from the selected securement site.

4. Cleanse and degrease securement site with alcohol or per hospital policy and procedure. Let skin dry. Be sure to clean areas larger than the securement site.
5. Apply skin protectant using both pads, in the direction of hair growth, to an area larger than the securement site. Allow drying completely (10-15 seconds).

6. Using a permanent marker, write initials and date of application on the StatLock device anchor pad.

7. Align the StatLock Stabilization Device over the securement site, leaving one inch of catheter slack between the insertion site and the StatLock device retainer.* Make sure leg is fully extended.

8. While holding the retainer to keep the pad in place, peel away the paper backing, one side at a time, and place tension-free on the skin.

1. Open the retainer by pressing the release button with your thumb, then gently lift it to open.

2. Remove Foley catheter. 3. Wipe the edge of the pad using at least 5-6 alcohol pads until a corner lifts. Then continue to stroke the undersurface of the pad in a back-and-forth motion by squeezing the alcohol out to dissolve the adhesive pad away from the skin.

How to maintain the StatLock Foley Stabilization Device?

  • The device must be changed at least once every 7 days  and should be assessed every day.
  • If the stabilizer pad becomes soiled, wash it with soap, water, saline, or hydrogen peroxide.
  • Remember not to use alcohol or prepackaged bathing systems as they can lead to early lifting. 
  • Cover the StatLock stabilizing device with plastic wrap or waterproof dressing if showering or bathing. 
  • Conduct skin assessment before application and repeat daily per facility protocol. 
  • Use clinical judgment on removing the device if the patient experiences fluid shifts that may interfere with skin integrity.

Contraindications:

Not to be used by people with

  • Known tape or adhesive allergies.
  • Known sensitivity to benzoin. (Zinc Oxide PICC Neonatal Universal)
  • Do not use alcohol or acetone-containing products on pre-term infants

Care Guidelines for StatLock Catheter Stabilization Device

  • Do not use StatLock Foley Stabilization Device in the following cases:
    • In places where the loss of adherence could occur
    • If access device is unattended
    • Diaphoretic or non-adherent skin
    • When the access device is not monitored daily
  • Do not use with a confused patient, unattended access device, diaphoretic or non-adherent skin, or when the access device is not monitored daily
  • Observe universal blood and body fluid precautions and infection control procedures during the StatLock stabilization device application and removal
  • The user can suture the StatLock stabilization device pad to the skin if necessary or deemed necessary
  • Avoid the device contact with alcohol or acetone; both can weaken the bonding of components and the StatLock stabilization device pad adherence
  • Do not manipulate catheter during StatLock stabilization device application and removal
  • Do  not forget to remove oil and moisturizer from targeted skin area
  • The StatLock stabilization device pad adherence and catheter/tube position should be routinely inspected
  • Orient the StatLock stabilization device, so arrows point toward the catheter tip
  • A StatLock stabilization device Luer-lock connector must be used to secure venous and arterial catheters
  • Always apply the adhesive strip to central venous and arterial catheters at or near the insertion site when using a StatLock stabilization device
  • StatLock foley stabilizer is a single-use device. Reuse may put the patient at risk of infection, compromise the structural integrity and essential material and design characteristics of the device leading to failure and/or injury, illness or death of the patent
  • Do not re-sterilize the device, as the sterility of the device is not guaranteed following re-sterilization.
