Features of 3M Tegaderm Transparent Film Dressing
-
Versatile - one product to satisfy many clinical situations
Tegaderm can be used to protect I.V. sites, enhance wound healing, prevent skin breakdown, and protect closed surgical incisions. Tegaderm Film sizes, shapes, and application styles meet a wide variety of needs. Frame style facilitates cutting to desired shape and size for specific applications when needed.
-
Easy to apply - unique frame delivery system
Application of 3M Tegaderm Transparent Film Dressing is intuitive and quick. It is especially convenient for patient self-care. It minimizes application time and saves dressing waste and costs. Picture frame style helps with secure and precise placement of the dressing.
-
Gentle adhesive - just the right balance in adhesive strength
Tegaderm patches are constructed with a latex-free, hypoallergenic adhesive that is gentle on the skin. It holds catheters and some other devices securely in place. The dressing provides good initial adhesion without building to excessive levels over time. The risk of patient discomfort and skin trauma is minimal, even for dressings left in place for extended periods.
-
Breathable - lets oxygen in and moisture vapor out
The breathability of Tegaderm allows moisture vapor and gas exchange. Patients can wear 3M Tegaderm Dressings for a long span of time with minimal risk of skin irritation.
-
Waterproof, sterile barrier - impervious to liquids, bacteria, and viruses
3M Tegaderm film dressing acts as a barrier to protect the I.V. site or wound from external contaminants, including liquids, bacteria, and viruses. It is waterproof; patients can take a bath, shower, or swim with it.
-
Conformable - flexes with skin for greater patient comfort
3M Tegaderm Transparent Film Dressing conforms to body contours. It stretches to prevent stress on the skin when the patient moves. It protects skin and bony prominences from abrasion and allows the patient to move easily.
-
Enhanced wound healing - improved outcomes and patient comfort
Tegaderm seals natural wound fluid to maintain a moist environment. A moist environment heals up the healing process. It prevents scab formation and dehydration of the wound bed. It reduces pain caused by wound dehydration and increases patient comfort.
-
Transparent - allows wounds and I.V. sites to be easily monitored
3M Transparency Film provides complete visibility of the site during application. It also allows continuous monitoring of the target site without any need to remove the dressing.
-
Fewer dressing changes - increased patient comfort
Fewer dressing changes mean improved patient comfort. There is a reduction in the risk of skin trauma from repeated adhesive removal. For wound applications, the longer wear time allows the wound to remain undisturbed. It prevents disruption of the healing process.
-
Clinically proven - efficacious for I.V. site and wound care
Numerous clinical trials by independent researchers support the use of 3M Tegaderm transparent dressings. They are ideal for both I.V. sites and wound care.

How to Apply Tegaderm Transparent Film Dressing Frame Style?
3M Tegaderm Application:
- Choose the right size Tegaderm 3M Transparent Film Dressing to cover your catheter or wound, leaving a one-inch margin sticking to dry, healthy skin.
- Prepare the catheter site or wound as instructed in the medical guidelines.
- Trim any excess hair in the area where you'll place the Tegaderm dressing for better adhesion. Do not shave, as it can cause small scratches.
- Make sure the skin is clean and free from soap, detergents, and lotions. Let any cleaning solutions dry completely before putting on the dressing. Adhesive products don't stick well to wet or oily skin.
- Be gentle when applying Tegaderm; don't stretch it. Pulling it tightly can harm the skin and make it not stick properly.
- Press the Tegaderm dressing firmly from the center toward the edges to make it stick well.
- If you need a different size or shape, use clean scissors to cut the dressing before removing the backing. Leave a part of the frame on at least two sides for easier application.
How to remove 3M Film Dressing?
- To take off the 3M Tegaderm Transparent Film Dressing, make sure to support the skin. If it's on an IV site, also hold the catheter gently to prevent it from moving.
- You have a few options for removing it, depending on the patient's skin condition and what they prefer:
- Option 1: Carefully grab one edge of the dressing and slowly peel it off the skin, following the direction of hair growth. Instead of pulling it up, peel it backward over itself.
- Option 2: Hold one edge and gently pull the dressing straight out to stretch and loosen the adhesive.
- Option 3: Use a special adhesive remover on the edge of the dressing while gently peeling it off the skin.
Contraindications of 3M Tegaderm Film Dressing:
- Do not use it as a replacement for sutures and other primary wound closure methods.
- Stop any bleeding at the site before applying the dressing.
- Do not stretch Tegaderm dressing while applying as tension can cause skin trauma.
- Make sure the skin is clean. It should be free of soap residue and lotion. Allow the skin to dry thoroughly before applying the dressing. This will prevent skin irritation and ensure good adhesion.
- Only under the care of a healthcare professional may the dressing be used on an infected site.
- Tegaderm Transparent Dressings are not recommended to be re-sterilized.
