Venous stasis ulcers or varicose ulcers are caused when the venous valves malfunction and cause an increase in pressure in the veins. This condition generally occurs in the lower leg. The veins carry deoxygenated blood from the body back to the heart. The veins operate at a minimum pressure and any kind of malfunction in the pressure results in blood entering the subcutaneous tissue which in turn leads to edema. The final outcome of this condition is the formation of venous stasis ulcers and in some cases the necrosis of the skin and the underlying tissue. Treatment of this condition includes covering existing ulcers with dressings and using anti-septic solutions to stop any kind of infection from affecting it.
