TheraHoney is one of the latest advancements in the wound care products of Medline Industries. TheraHoney dressings are made up 100% medical-grade Manuka Honey. Manuka honey is a unique honey derived from the Manuka bush’s nectar found in northern New Zealand. It is often used because of its antimicrobial properties when treatments with antibiotics and antiseptics fail. Manuka honey wound dressings are ideal for stalled wounds with slough or necrotic issue. Therahoney is available in two versions: TheraHoney Gel honey dressing and TheraHoney gauze dressing. TheraHoney Gel honey dressing is absolutely pure Manuka honey which does not contain any filler. It is suggested for use in wounds with no or moderate drainage. Therahoney gauze dressing is easy to apply and allows the passage of exudate into a secondary dressing. It is indicated for a variety of wounds with any drainage level.
Medline TheraHoney products are made up of Manuka honey, which is derived from the nectar and pollen of the Leptospermum scoparium plant found in New Zealand. The honey comb comes in use only once. It is harvested and carefully filtered, and then irradiated and tested in a laboratory for high effectiveness and efficiency.
Unique properties of Manuka honey help in creating a moist wound environment that promotes rapid wound healing. It reduces wound odor and clears away necrotic tissue by promoting autolytic debridement.
The above illustration explains the way in which osmotic activity of TheraHoney wound dressing draws out exudate from the subcutaneous tissue to the wound surface, thereby removing slough, debris and necrotic tissue.
There are four product lines in TheraHoney: TheraHoney Gel, TheraHoney Foam, TheraHoney Sheets and TheraHoney HD. All these TheraHoney products help create a moist wound environment which promotes rapid healing.
TheraHoney Gel Honey Dressing is ideal for difficult to dress wounds with no drainage to moderate drainage. This 100% Manuka honey wound gel provides a moist wound healing environment. TheraHoney Gel Honey Dressing is applied at about a nickel thickness in the wound using a gloved finger or an appropriate applicator. It should then be covered with an occlusive absorbent dressing. TheraHoney honey cream for wounds is compatible with silver dressings and wound cleanser surfactants.
TheraHoney Foam Flex dressing is impregnated foam dressing perfect for absorption. It has primary layer made up of 100% Leptospermum scoparium medical-grade honey and secondary, cover layer made up of foam. Dual layer of TheraHoney Foam Flex continuously releases honey into the wound, creating an optimal balance between absorption and moisture that is important for healing. The combination of medical-grade honey and foam can help in reduction of the risk of maceration by providing a holistic approach. TheraHoney Foam dressing proves to be of great benefit to clinicians as its efficient all-in-one design leads to a decrease in application time. This Manuka honey wound dressing provides significantly greater absorption in comparison to other products on the market.
TheraHoney Sheet dressing is impregnated with pure Manuka honey. It is known for its easy handling and application. TheraHoney Sheet dressing promotes autolytic debridement and maintains a moist environment. It is porous and allows the passage of exudate into the secondary dressing. TheraHoney Sheet is suggested for use on wounds with any drainage level.
TheraHoney HD dressing contains 200% more honey as compared to TheraHoney Sheet. It is thicker and more flexible than TheraHoney Sheet dressing.
