Wet Wounds

Wet wounds are wounds that have high discharge of exudate. They are usually situated in crucial parts of the body that bleed heavily with the slightest of wounds. High-absorbent dressings are the go to option for wet wounds. For deep wounds, a person should use filler dressings that can pack the wound as well as absorb the exudate. Wet wounds if not treated correctly can cause infections. The heavy exudate creates a highly conducive environment for the growth of bacteria and other microbes. We at Shop Wound Care have a wide range of products that help in the treatment of wet wounds from top selling brands such as BSN Medical, 3M, Advancis Medical, etc.

Types of Wet Wounds

  • Shallow Wounds - They are shallow wounds with heavy discharge of exudate. Not all shallow wound discharge heavy exudate.

  • Deep Wounds - Deep wounds with heavy discharge, they require a packing before they can be covered and treatment begins.

Treatment Methods for Wet Wounds

There are a number of treatment methods for wet wounds:

  • One of the first priorities while treating a wet wound is to use a dressing that absorbs the exudate. Since wet wounds have a heavy discharge of exudate, the dressing has to be highly absorbent.

  • Wet wounds tend to make the skin around the wound very moist which in turn requires the dressing to be highly adhesive. Choose a dressing that has high adhesiveness.

  • The wound also is a breeding ground for infections and so one should always use an anti-microbial solution to clean the wound before applying the dressing.
