How to use 3M Compound Benzoin Tincture?

  1. Clean and dry skin for at least 2 1/2 inches (5 cm) around the wound making sure to remove skin oil or exudate
  2. For best results, use a sponge moistened with alcohol or saline followed by a firm wipe with a dry sponge
  3. Using aseptic technique, peel back lid and deliver vial
  4. Gently squeeze vial to crush inner ampule, thereby releasing compound benzoin tincture
  5. Do not roll crushed ampule between fingers as this may cause glass to penetrate outer vial
  6. Carefully apply a thin film of compound benzoin tincture to the skin on each side of the wound with strokes parallel to the wound
  7. Begin at the wound edges and work outward. Avoid inadvertent contact with wound
  8. Allow tincture to dry before applying Steri Strip skin closures (approximately 30-45 seconds)

Spillage of compound benzoin tincture into the wound should be avoided, as it may impair the wound healing process

  1. Allergic contact dermatitis to compound benzoin tincture has been reported.
  2. WARNING flammable liquid and vapor.
  3. Compound Benzoin Tincture is flammable until it has completely dried on the skin. 
  4. Compound Benzoin Tincture should only be applied when no ignition sources, flames, or heat-producing devices are in use.
  5. For external use only.

    Store below 40°C (10°F). Avoid excessive heat or humidity

    Applicator sterile unless package is opened or damage
