How Safetac Technology Benefits?

Safetac is a patented soft silicone adhesive technology. Safetac technology drastically reduces both pain and tissue damage in wound management. The healing process is accelerated without maceration, blistering, and skin-stripping trauma. Mepilex Border Safetac technology causes minimal tissue injury during wear and upon removal. It minimizes wound and surrounding skin trauma, which reduces pain. The Safetac layer seals the wound edges and prevents the exudate from leaking.

  • Faster Healing: Mepilex Border with Safetac technology creates a faster wound healing environment. Traditional adhesives may strip the skin, tear the wound, and leak drainage back onto the skin, causing delayed wound healing. The Safetac layer does not stick in the wound and does not strip the skin.
  • Better Drainage Management: Mepilex Border with Safetac technology absorbs drainage better than other dressings. It allows for a longer wear time and provides optimal moisture and temperature resulting in undisturbed wound healing.
  • Reduced Pain and Stress: Pain from dressing changes is usually a result of adhesives that damage the wound and surrounding skin. Pain causes stress, and stress delays healing. Mepilex soft silicone foam dressing is intended to be less painful during dressing changes.
  • Ease of use: Mepilex with border is soft, comfortable, and easy to use in delicate areas. Safetac layer does not stick to the wound removal, giving less pain to the patient.
  • No Injury: Mepilex Border Dressing does not damage the newly formed granulation tissue.
  • Sealing Action: Safetac adhesive seals the wound margins, protecting against exudate leakage and maceration. Seals the wound completely and instantly. It provides an optimal moist wound healing environment.

How to use Molnlycke Border Dressing?

  • Gently cleanse the wound, dry surrounding skin
  • Choose a size that will allow the dressing to overlap the wound area by at least 2 cm
  • Remove the release film Apply dressing with the adherent side to the wound
  • Do not stretch
  • When used on an extremity, position Mepilex slightly below the center of the wound to avoid leakage caused by gravitation
  • If required, fixate Mepilex with Mepitac tape, a compression bandage, or other secondary fixation product such as Tubifast
  • If additional fixation is required this should only be applied around the margins of the dressing

Frequency of Change:

The interval between changes will normally be determined by the amount of exudate produced by the wound. Mepilex Border Foam Dressing may be left in place for up to 7 days depending on the wound condition, or as indicated by accepted clinical practice. The dressing may be left in place for several days on clean non-infected wounds.

Precautions for Mepilex Border:

  • Do not use on patients with known hypersensitivity to the ongoing materials/components of the product
  • Do not use it together with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide
  • If you see signs of infection e.g. fever or the wound or surrounding skin becomes red, warm, or swollen, consult a health care professional for appropriate treatment
  • The use of dressings as part of a prophylactic therapy does not preclude the need to continue to develop and follow a comprehensive pressure ulcer prevention protocol, i.e. support surfaces, positioning, nutrition, hydration, skin care, and mobility.
  • Do not reuse. If the reused performance of the product may deteriorate, cross-contamination may occur.
  • Sterile. Do not use if the sterile barrier is damaged or opened prior to use. Do not re-sterilize.

Warnings:

  • The presence of clinical infection does not preclude the use of Mepilex Border provided that appropriate antimicrobial therapy is also provided
  • Sloughy wounds dressed with Mepilex Border may initially appear to increase in size due to autolytic debridement promoted by the moist conditions produced beneath the dressing
  • Increase in size is normal and to be expected initially
