Crawford KerraCel Gelling Fiber Absorbent Dressing is highly absorbent and conformable wound dressing. It can be used in management of low to heavily exuding partial and full-thickness chronic and acute wounds. It locks in exudate to protect periwound skin from maceration and forms a soothing gel when wet. It helps in maintaining a moist healing environment and contours to the wound bed to minimize dead space. It is also a 100 percent carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) dressing.

Benefits of KerraCel Gelling Fiber Absorbent Dressing

  • Contains cellulose stitching to keep from falling apart when being pulled from the wound
  • Unique 100% CMC composition gives it the strength to be pulled from the wound bed without compromising the benefits of the gelling and contouring action
  • Micro-contours more closely to the wound bed to minimize dead space where bacteria can live and proliferate
  • Locks in exudate and its harmful components, including bacteria and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs)

KerraCel dressing is designed to:

  • Contour to the wound bed to minimize dead space where bacteria can live
  • Lock in exudate to protect periwound skin from maceration
  • Form a soothing gel when wet
  • Sequester harmful components found in exudate
  • Help maintain a moist, healing environment
  • Be removed from the wound bed in one piece

More Information

  • Directions For Use
    - Site Preparation
    - Debride when necessary and irrigate the wound site in accordance with standard protocols
    - Remove excess solution from surrounding skin
    - Exuding Wounds
    1. KerraCel should overlap 1cm / 0.39" onto the skin surrounding the wound.
    2. When using KerraCel ribbon in deep cavity wounds, leave at least 2.5cm / 1" outside the wound for easy retrieval. Only pack deep wounds up to 80%, as KerraCel will expand to fill the wound spaces on contact with wound fluid.
    3. Apply the dressing to the wound and cover with an appropriate secondary dressing.
    4. KerraCel can be left in place for up to 7 days where clinically indicated (except for burns where it can be left inplace for up to 14 days).
    - Dry Wounds
    1. Place the KerraCel on the wound and wet with sterile water or saline over the wound area only.
    2. Cover the dressing with a moisture retentive dressing to avoid drying out of the dressing and subsequent dressing adherence to the wound
  • Contra Indications
    - Surgical implantation
    - To control heavy bleeding
    - Individuals who are sensitive to or who have had an allergic reaction to the dressing or its components
