What to buy with 3M Surgical Tan Paper Tape

How to use 3M Micropore Tan Tape?

Application Recommendations:

  • Apply it gently on clean, dry skin without pulling it tight.
  • If needed, you can use clippers to remove hair.
  • To protect sensitive skin, you can use 3M Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film before applying the tape.
  • Avoid wrapping the tape all the way around a limb.
  • If you expect swelling, use stretchy tape or a self-adherent wrap to secure the dressing or tubing.

Applying 3M Micropore Tan Tape:

A. General taping:

  • Put the tape on without stretching it, and press it down gently but firmly.
  • Make sure it goes at least half an inch past the dressing.
  • Don't pull or stretch the tape when you apply it.
  • If there's swelling, loosen or replace the tape to relieve the pressure.

B. When you need compression:

  • First, gently press one section of tape onto the skin beside the dressing.
  • Then, use one hand to secure the tape on one side of the dressing while slightly stretching the next section over the dressing.
  • Secure the tape on the other side of the dressing.
  • Press the remaining tape onto the skin without pulling it tight.
  • The compression should come from the layers of dressing, not from stretching the tape too much. If the skin swells under the tape, it can cause blisters, so make sure to fix it.

Removing 3M Micropore Tan Tape:

  • Properly taking off the tape is important to avoid hurting the skin:
  • Loosen the edges of the tape. If needed, start with a small piece of tape in one corner.
  • Hold the skin with one finger.
  • Remove the tape slowly, following the direction of hair growth, and keep it close to the skin.
  • Pull the tape back over itself. Removing it at an angle can hurt the skin. As you remove it, keep supporting the newly exposed skin.

Sterilization:

The following method was tested and proven reliable for sterilization and stable adhesion performance, with ethylene oxide residuals well within U.S. FDA guidelines:

  • Strips of 3M Micropore Paper Tape arranged over a suitable release surface, e.g., glass, stainless steel, silicone-treated paper
  • Tape sealed in appropriate sterilization pouch or wrapper
  • EtO sterilized warm cycle 55 degrees C (130-145 degrees F), minimum 1 hour exposure time (50% RH - 600 mg/liter, or equivalent)
  • Warm cycle aeration (temperature not to exceed 55 degrees C) for a minimum 20 hour cycle before use

Storage and Shelf life:

  • It is recommended that 3M Medical Tapes be stored under normal conditions within the temperature range of 59 - 86 degrees F (15 - 30 degrees C)
  • 3M Micropore Medical Tape has a recommended shelf life of five years under these conditions.
